First off! Let me answer some questions that mom had:

I have a few questions if you have time to answer.....

Does Pres. Tucker live there in Santa Anna? or does he get the call just like Pres Bowen and move there?  Are there just the two of them?
- President Tucker lives in Anaheim. His other counselor, President Pugmire, lives in Yorba Linda. That's all.

Do you spend time in the office every day?
- Not everyday, I'd die, I can't stand fluorescent lighting for too long. It's too officey, generally just when we're planning a general authority visit, doing transfers, and finalizing transfers which only takes place the first week after transfers. Every Friday we come in to report all the baptisms happening during the weekend. It's called Friday to Fridays.

If so how much time.......and do you teach every day?
- When we're doing transfers which takes place from week 3 to week 6. at first we're here about 3 hours just us and President in his office, after that it takes way less.

How often do you train missionaries? Is that just at Zone Conference?
- We train all the Trainers, District Leaders, and Zone Leaders the first week of transfers, and we train the Zone leaders the first tuesday of every month. Other than that there are some other little meetings that happen once in a blue moon that we have to do, but generally nothing more than these set meetings.

Do you go on splits?  Is that mainly with companions that are having problems?
- We do exchanges with every Zone Leader companionship every transfer. If necessary, due to problems, we will go with some missionaries, but that hardly ever happens ever...cuz my mission is the best and everyone loves it here.

How often do you eat at members homes?
- Every night :) Tonight we're eating Roast at my favorite recent convert families house in this ward, the Sessions!!! You'll get to meet them in December! They are going to come up to Utah.

Do you like your ward? Do you go to the same ward every week?
- I LOVE my ward. Yes I do.

How are you and your comp doing? 
- We are doing awesome!!! We had one of the greatest weeks of our mission this last week!! I love Elder Hartt!

Do you see Matt Lund?
- Every thursday and monday at the very least. He is in my zone! He is in the Disney Land ward that I was in before I got transfered here! He's the man. I love that kid! Tell the Lund's that I love their son and he's awesome!

Have you seen any of Taylors facebook pictures from Africa?
- Not a single one! I would love to though!! I've been praying for her! I'd love an update on how she's doing!

WHAT DO YOU NEED?????  I will be sending a box next week so if there is anything you need please let me know.
- 2 new things of face wash, some smell goods. I would like permission to use the money you've given me to get you guys some little souvenirs. I would like a couple printed out pictures of the family. I would love a picture of every in our extended family with the names for all the new kids so I can remember and know them all by name before I even meet them. (that's how we do it with the new missionaries when we pick them up at the airport. We memorize their face, name, and some things about them that we can ask them about before we even meet them.) Other than that you guys give me too much! I'm so grateful for everything and all the support! 

Great questions!!! That was fun! A list of questions like that is super easy. I just copied and pasted it. If you guys want to do that more, that makes it super easy!!

There is no way I could ever explain all the cool stuff that happened this week. i will try and sum it up in a nut shell.

We have 10 new investigators who are wayyy solid. 3 that are getting baptized within the next 3 weeks. They are sooo awesome! The Lord has blessed us a lot!

I'll give an account of the most solid ones

Shauntay and Kennedy. Samoan. Awesome. Kennedy is less-active but SUCH a cool guy. His wife Shauntay is a non-member but has wanted to join the church for years. Kennedy always talks about it, for some reason they have just never contacted the church. They love the gospel already and Shauntay is the most prepared person I have ever seen on my entire mission. She flat out told us,"I don't know much about the bible or the church, but from what I do know, I already know that I want to be apart of this. I want to be with my husband for eternity. He has told me about the church and I want to know what I need to do to be apart of the church. How soon can that happen?" Yeah.. She's solid. She's getting baptized November 11th. I already love those guys a ton.

Bro and Sis. Kor. Sister Kor is less active, but her testimony is unshakeable. She watched general conference. She reads the scrips. Her husband has no religious background at all. He has no religious belief. He wants to have a knowledge of the questions of the soul, like, where did I come from.. all that jazz. He is a super nice dude and really wants to learn and to find out for himself if this is true. They are a super solid couple and he has a baptismal date for the 11th of November as well.

Sammy and Grace. They are from Kenya! They've lived here for around 3 years! Non members, but they are looking for a church for their family! they have a one years old son who's hilarious! They accepted baptism but not a date. They said they want to be sure in their decision to join the church first, before they set this goal with us. They are some of the nicest people I've ever met and they are truth seekers. They asked really awesome questions and felt the spirit during our lesson for sure.

Dejon and James. Black. Dejon is in his low 20's, James is his grandpa who is 60. Dejon lives with James. Non members. Dejon is definitely more solid than james. They live in our complex actually. Dejon flagged us down one day and said that he wants to come closer to God and come to church with us. He accepted baptism, but not a date yet.

Safara. Black. She's 9. Missionaries have taught her in the past. Her Grandma is a recent convert. Safara is wayyy funny and she's soo smart. She knows way more about the church than I did when I was 9. She pretty much taught us the whole first lesson without us having to explain or anything. She's awesome.

Martha. We taught Martha in the past. She's wayy solid but has been gone away doing some work. We just by chance ran into her the other night, she's back and ready to learn again. We have a lesson with her tonight.

There is a couple others that we found and are working with, but we're most excited about these guys. The Lord has given us a lot to work with! There's never been a better time to be a missionary in the Anaheim 3rd ward than right now!! Elder Hartt and I are having a blast!!! We are loving everything! Not only this, we totally received revelation for our mission. We teach the zone leaders, they in turn, teach the rest of their zones and apply principles that they learn that we teach them. We did a whole zone training about focusing on the Holy Ghost in conversion. As we had call in summary reports this week, we discovered that our mission as a whole taught 800 lessons, and found 172 new investigators!! 10 baptisms this past week!! Things are happening! The Lord has poured out his spirit on Anaheim! A huge movement has started this past week! It's exciting too cuz we are getting 14 missionaries this next transfer and we are opening 9 new areas! Elder Hartt and I had to meet with the spanish zone leaders and split an area and we are opening a lot in english and vietnamese. It's so exciting! Our mission is growing!!! You guys these are such exciting times to be a missionary!! I can't even explain it!! I love being a missionary right now!!! We have a general authority coming in the beginning of november to train our mission too! Elder Kopischke! from the 70. We planned out his whole california stay with President Bowen last week. We're excited for that!

You guys! It's been an awesome week. I hope everything is going well for each of you! From the sounds of it, everything is pretty good! My prayers are still with you dadday! Keep going strong! Hang in there! You've got the mission praying for you! You guys are all in my prayers everyday!

I love you! I miss you guys! Today is officially my 22 month mark. I cannot believe how fast time is going!! It's so nuts! 8 weeks left! That's nothing, but there's so much do to still!

Hey family!

You guys are the best!!!

What's up? How are you doing!?

 

We had a pretty busy week this past week! Mainly just finalizing all the transfer stuff. We got all the new missionaries settled in. Got all the transfer stuff completed. We did some planning for this transfer and all the stuff going down. Trained all the new missionaries and all the new leaders. A lot of busy work! But luckily we had some great teaching opportunities this week!

 

We had some good experiences while sharing pure doctrine with others. We were talking to this girl, probably 18 or 19(generally not that interested in what we have to say), she wasn't that stoked during our door approach, but as we taught her doctrine and asked her questions and really just tried our best to follow the spirit, she became captivated at what we had to say. At the very end we asked what her thoughts were and how she felt as we talked, and she said,"I want to consider having God more in my life, I have a feeling like a want to know more." We have an appointment with her this friday. The principle of sharing doctrine to bring the spirit is something I've really come to understand. President Bowen teaches this principle really well. He talked about how that's why our sacrament meetings can get so boring, because they're forgetting that everything we sing, or speak, absolutely must be in harmony with the emblems of the sacrament. He gave the example of the testimony meeting where it goes a little something like,"Butch just got a scholarship to play football at BYU and our other kids have gone there too, and we're so blessed...in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen." He explained, we need to be careful when we speak in the name of the Lord. The spirit can't bare testimony of that. When we share the doctrine of Christ, the spirit has the opportunity to give us revelation and to touch our hearts, but when we get lost in the trap of sharing stories and way too many analogies of life principles, the spirit cannot touch hearts and edify. We're actually going to be training the zone leaders tomorrow about this subject. We're going to be talking about how we need to create an environment where the spirit can be present to teach others. We need the spirit with us, if He's not, we can't teach in the name of Christ(D&C 42:14). So remember that! When you're giving a talk, sharing a lesson, or sharing your testimony, it needs to be doctrine. That way, we have the chance to feel the Spirit. Then the sacrament meetings, and the lessons, and everything will become a well of revelation that everyone will be excited to come to drink from every opportunity they have!

 

Wasn't Conference the best!?!? I was so excited for this weekend, and they delivered just as they always do!! I felt many impressions and received answers to prayers as I listened to the talks of our leaders. Elder Holland threw it down as always, I loved President Uchtdorf and President Eyrings talks. Elder Bednar is awesome, Elder Christofferson is awesome. They're all awesome!!! I especially love President Uchtdorf's talk on saturday about living it up today and enjoying life!! He's so right! Dreams aren't something we should put on the back burner. We need to live life today! Like Incubus said for their new album name, "If not now, when?" Funny story about that actually. I got a call last week from a family I loved in La Habra! The Rodriguez's. They called to inform me that they went to an incubus concert a couple months ago and got me a shirt and they wanted to know the mission address so they could send it to me. haha I thought that was pretty stinking cool. Anyways! We had an investigator come to conference! John Bennum. I've talked a little bit about him. He's the good ol fashioned black guy that we teach from mississippi. Classic black guy. Wears a dirty white shirt with some overalls. Unfortunately he goes commando as well. I don't know who's butt I've seen more, John's or Aj's haha. John actually took us to Red Lobster the other day as well. Overalls and all. He wears it every single day! haha he's such a character, you guys would love him. His only concern for not joining the church is he thinks he's already mormon cuz he believes what we believe already, but we've explained to him time and time again that he needs to be baptized to become a member. I think he's coming around and my guess is he'll be baptize some day, that day could potentially be far away though. He leaned over to me during conference and said loud enough for everyone sitting around us,"You will become a member of the 12." haha in such a serious tone. He was dead serious! I chuckled and he reaffirmed,"I'm serious! I can see you up there." haha he's such a cool guy. He's a coin collector and the other day gave me an Arkansas(he loves that I lived in the south, He always says,"Maybe that's why you and I click so well and you understand me, cuz we're southerners.") coin that has never been touched by human hands. Ha hopefully you'll get to meet him some day!

 

Other than that there was nothing really too huge this week! The 1st week of transfer is always just filled with busy work when your an assistant. Kind of annoying at times. I wish we could just get out and do the work all day everyday! but we gotta help President train the missoinaries. I do love being around them and helping them out, especially being around President. He's awesome. We get closer and closer every week. I feel like we're getting to be pretty good friends. That's been the best part of this position for sure.

 

Dad. You are in my prayers all day everyday. Keep it going! Keep hanging in there! Stay strong. You would be amazed at all my friends out here in the mission field that come up to me and say,"I'm praying for your dad every night, how's he doing?" I'm so glad to report everytime. "He's hangin in there and staying strong." I always tell them thank you and tell them it means a lot to you that they are praying for you as well. Just know that you are in a lot of missionaries, including President and Sister Bowen's, prayers out here. We're all rootin for you Paps! I love you!

What an exciting day it's been to day, and an exciting week we had last week!

First off,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE PACKAGE!!!! YOU GUYS ARE AAWWEESSOOMMEE!! 
I loved everything!! It's all awesome and I love it all. you guys are the best there is. I love you! Our treats cupboard is huge. Are you guys trying to give me diabetes before I get home? haha

Today was sad/way awesome! 
Here's why it was sad:
We put some incredible Elders on the plane this morning. One of them being Elder Sumsion. It sucked telling him goodbye. It was pretty sad. But he's going to be awesome and successful. We got to be really close. We had an incredible week of just hard work. It was awesome. You guys will get to meet him at my homecoming. 

It is awesome today cuz we also picked up the new load of greenies! Let me tell you, they are a pretty awesome group of Elders and Sisters! I'm very impressed with each of em! I get to drive the huge mission van now, or "the tank" as I like to call it. It was just Elder Hartt and I with a big van full of fresh meat! They are stoked and ready to go! We are going back over there in just a bit to give them some training just before they meet their companions. 

Elder Hartt and I are doing great! He's an awesome missionary!! I don't know if I mentioned this before, but he'll most likely be the missionary to kill me(send me home in 11 weeks). I love Elder Hartt! He was my zone leader up in La Habra so I've already gone on plenty of exchanges with him and know him pretty well. He's a good guy! He likes Coldplay and he's from Virginia! We're doing good!

This last week Elder Sumsion and I found a really cool new investigator from Kenya! His name is Patrick. Found knocking. He's a super nice guy and calls us his "brothers". He accepted a baptismal date for october the 14th. Hopefully he'll be able to make that. He works on sundays sometimes so we might have to push it back a bit. 

Other than Patrick we have some other new investigators as well. Noone quite as solid as Patrick, but we have some cool new prospects!

Do you remember Michael by any chance? From Morrocco. He got his Muslim interview (church policy before we teach them) and he's cleared for us to keep teaching him. I think he'll be baptized by the end of October, but we'll see! He actually just got out of the hospital with a severe ear infection! Sucks! But he's good now! So we'll start teaching him again, he was on hold for a bit. 

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Derek Lasley who I baptized last year!? Him and Melissa Olson got sealed on friday and I got to be there!! It was the first sealing I've ever seen!! You guys. It was LEGIT! Such an incredible experience! Elder Lieberum and I met up at the church across the street and headed on over there. It was cool cuz there was not a lot of people in the sealing room at all. There was only Melissa, Derek, Melissa's parents, one cousin, then 2 of Melissa's brothers and their wives, Melissa's close friend, then Elder Lieberum and I. Super small group! Sister Olson was telling us before Derek and Melissa were there that that was exactly how they wanted it, a small group of people that they really wanted there. So it was an honor and a privelege to be a part of that. The spirit was soo strong! You could tell how much it meant to both of them. They just eminated happiness. They had a glow about them. The sealer said some really cool stuff too! He mainly spoke about some promised blessings found in D&C 76,110,131,and 132. I think it's really interesting that 132 is the only section that wasn't recorded the day it was received. Joseph Smith knew of the new and everlasting covenant far before recording it. I find that very significant. When he said, speaking of the first vision, "...and many other things did they say unto me..." They very well could have been speaking of this covenant, but it just wasn't time for the rest of the church to know about it. Line upon line! ( precept on precept, like a summer shower bringing us each hour his wisdom!! - Pam) haha no but it was really an amazing experience. Something I'll definitely never forget. 

Aight you guys, we gotta skip back over to the mission home to train the greenies some more!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES/PACKAGES/PRAYERS/E-MAILS/PRESENTS/GOODIES/TIES/SOCKS/AWESOMENESS COMPASS/LETTERS/EVERYTHING!!!!!

So I guess I'm 21 now! It's Elder Sumsions birthday this saturday and he's turning 21 as well. I never let him forget that as for right now I'm older. He'll say something dumb and I'll just say,"I might think that too if I was 20." haha it's totally rad.

 

It was a great birthday! A full days worth of missionary work! The best! We were in the office in the morning recording all the baptisms that were happening in the coming week. Sister Watson(office sr. missionary) had a birthday the 20th, and sister Collet (another sr. office missionary) had one the 22nd. and Elder Sumsion has one this saturday, so sister watson got a huge birthday cake and we celebrated the best september birthdays! haha it was sweet. On our way home something crazy happened! We were driving by Disney Land on our way home for lunch(which by the way we ended up going to Taco Bell :)) and we saw hundreds of people standing on the sidewalk looking towards disney land and looking into the sky. They lined the whole street! It was crazy! Everyone was outside looking at something and Elder Sumsion and I were like,"What in the world are we missing?" So we pulled over to ask somebody what was up and right as we pull over, everyone starts cheering and yelling and going crazy!! So we look up into the sky and we see a stinking Space shuttle fly right over our heads!!! A space shuttle!! With 2 jets behind it! Appearantly Nasa is retiring all their space shuttles, so they flew a shuttle named "The Endeavor" over Disney land as it's last flight. It was so crazy! It was stinking low you guys! It was way sweet though! A guy that we are pretty good friends with who lives next door to us used to work for them and he got us 2 really nice professional photos of it! It's so sweet!

 

I gave a talk in church yesterday about charity and love. I think it went pretty well! I talked a lot about the importance of charity and how "charity never faileth". I also poised the question of "What blessings of the Restored Gospel do we desire most?" and then shared about what paul says in 1 corinthians 13 about how he has all power and knowledge, but if he doesn't have charity he's nothing. Then they had Elder Sumsion give his farewell testimony! (even though he still has another week) Then we taught gospel essentials cuz the normal teacher's wife's sister was in labor sunday morning so they ran. So we taught gospel essentials! haha it was fun. And then yesterday night we had a baptism!!! Edward got baptized!! We're so excited for him! He's and awesome kid! His mother got baptized as well, the spanish groupl in our ward put on that baptism. It was a spiritual feast for sure!

 

This is Elder Sumsion and I's last week! It sucks!! I'm gunna miss the crap outa him. We've had the best transfer of my mission. We worked our butts off, we worked smart, we're obedient, we always had the spirit with us, there was never contention, the mood was always light, yet we were able to talk about important and serious things as well. Seriously you guys, the ideal transfer. I loved every minute of if, and we're going to go just as hard this week! I know who my new companion is too and I'm going to love him. His name is Elder Hartt. He's from virginia. VERY smart kid. He's obedient, he's proactive, he's just what I and this mission needs. I'm so stoked to be with him. He's probably going to be the missionary that kills me. (mission term for your last companion when you go home). We'll probably be together for this transfer and the next. I have exactly 12 weeks from today!!! IT's so nuts!!! I cannot believe it!! I really am soaking up evey moment. I'm going to let these last weeks completely solidify everything I've learned out here. I"m going to learn everything I possibly can. I'm looking forward for the experiences at hand.

 

Today was a pretty awesome p-day! We had "Presidency Golf". Elder Sumsion and I, President Tucker (dad's favorite) and Presidnet Bowen! We went and golfed at the golf course that Tiger Woods golfed at when he was younger. "Dad MIller" golf course. We did a 2-man best ball. President Bowen and I were on a team! I love President to death, but I carried us today. haha. He's not that great at golf. I actually played really well! I was kinda surprised cuz it's been a while! Like 2 years! President Tucker is really good! Elder Sumsion did pretty well too! They ended up winning by 1. It was pretty much President Tucker and I just battling each other. It was just an awesome experience being in that kind of environment with those 2 incredible mission leaders. I love em both to death. President Tucker gave us both really nice Tidelist hats and Callaway gloves!

 

Do you guys remember Brother Postil? He was my favorite investigator in La Habra! He underwent a surgery get his bowels all worked out (he used to crap in a bag that came out his stomach) but now he's all hooked up again! We got a report from the Sisters serving there that he hasn't smoke for 3 and a half weeks!!!! That means he can get baptized really soon! That was the only thing holding him back! I hope he keeps it up! He has a stronger testimony than most members, the smoking was just a habbit he couldn't break! But now he's ready!

 

Aight you guys! We gotta head out to dinner with the Sessions! Tacos! Woof!!

Tell Taylor I said that what she's doing counts as a mission! And to hang in there and I love her!

YOU GUYS! haha Last week I got 2 e-mails, this week I got all the ones that were sent+like a ton more. I received 14 e-mails this week hahah. Thanks so much! haha I feel like enought text this morning to fill the book of Alma haha. I really appreciate that! You guys are the best.

#1 I'm completely out of face lotion and I looked at walmart and there's basically none. I would love some non spf sunscreen lotion. NO SPF please! Thanks!

#2 Thanks mom! The funds like wwaaayyyy cover my ticket. Like 3 times covers my ticket so thats great! Thanks I really truly appreciate that!'

#3 I'm so sorry I haven't sent off my pictures yet! Here's why. I'm using the printer I got last year to print off pics for friends taht I'm writing and I've been printing off a bunch of pics! So I'll send the card home, and even though I suck at sending pics fast, if you could just when you get the time get that back asap. That'd be great! Thanks for that!

THIS WEEK WAS SO AWESOME!! Minus one little thing

 

I'll get the one little sad thing out of the way first.

 

 

Ok so check it you guys!!

 

We had like the perfect missionary experience on tuesday/friday!!

We were going to see a part member family in probably the nicest complex in Anaheim (which really isn't anything fancy at all, but the security people hate us being in there) and the family wasn't home, but as we were walking out, our paths crossed perfectly with this young lady probably in her 30s. She was walking her dog and normally we don't contact people in this complex cuz of how crazy security is, but we both felt strangely prompted to. We ended up talking to her for about 10 minutes, after we started talking to her about our message, she just started bawling. Her name is Martha. She hasn't been very religious in her life, but she's been going through a pretty rough time and particularly that day she was having a really bad day, and prayed for the first time in years that God would send her someone to help her. Well that night we happened to run into her. She said that she knew for a fact that we were an answer to her prayers and that she needed what we had to say. We went back and taught her on friday with our ward mission leader and she just soaked it up! Asked awesome questions, said all the right things, cried again! haha She is soo grateful for what we're sharing to her and she said that she felt peace and comfort of the things we told her. She's super solid and has a a baptismal date for the end of september. Sep 29th!

 

We also have a baptism next Sunday! Edward! The 12 year old? we're stoked for him! He's getting dunked! All we need to do is teach him tithing!

 

There is also another guy who's getting closer to baptism who's name is John Bennem! He's been taught for about 9 months. He's a good ol fashioned black man from Louisianna! Probably the nicest guy you will ever meet. He is actually working towards baptism now! He used to be kind of resistant to baptism and just said he loved the church and wants to learn about it, but now he wants to be baptized! So things are definitely happening!

 

I'm going to go ahead and thank you in advance for the package this week! Haha I cannot believe I'm going to be 21 that's so weird. I don't feel 21. honestly

 I'm just stoked to go out and continue to work hard and do some missionary work that day! I ofcourse would love more than anything to be with you guys all day that day, but other than that I can't think of anything else I'd rather do than go out and work that day as a representative of Jesus Christ! My calling means so much to me. I can't even explain how much I love being a missionary. It really is the best.

 

Ok you guys! Elder Sumsion and I are loving being companions! This transfer has gone by wayyy too fast! I can't even believe it! I have a feeling the next 2 will fly by even faster!

Dad keep hanging in there! It's so good to hear your doing so well! hhah I'm gald you like President Tucker's message. He's and amazing guys! I really lover being around him out here. He's awesome! Very powerful man.
